Task Managers: Are they needed?

TLDR; no, they are definitely not needed. Task Managers are a antithesis to the way Android operates. Android has evolved over the years to accommodate user habits and because of that, apps work more seamlessly in the background. The point here comes to the underlying framework of Android; Linux.

I'll try to keep it simple, without getting into too much technical lingo. Linux based operating systems are more optimized than Windows. Why bring Windows into the scene now, you ask? Well, you could say that the practice of shutting down apps and force closing apps began with Windows all along. Windows allows more user control over what apps run in the background and which can be terminated. Task Managers were and are still important in Windows. This "habit" may have transitioned over to Android in the long run.

Coming back to Task Managers in Android, the Google Play Store has a wide collection of junk claiming to help your smartphone run faster. A very high majority of these pathetic apps take up your device's CPU usage by running in the background (ironic for a Task Manager, isn't it?) and on top of that, provide advertisements to download even more similar "managers".

Now a tech savvy individual would know better than to bother with any of these "cleaners", "managers" and what not. But take an older person for instance, your grandparents perhaps. They are more likely to believe everything that shows up on their smartphone's screen (bless them), and will most likely end up installing these apps.

After installing tons of these applications, their device eventually slows down and end up with even worse battery life. In some cases, they even get damaged due to the continuous overheating with these low-life apps. Part of the blame lies with the Play Store not regulating what apps are published there. The rest of the blame goes to OEMs themselves shipping these nonsense applications as stock apps on their devices.

Chinese OEMs are at fault here too, with a good majority of them including built in Task Managers in their OS. This does nothing but convince the user that clearing apps is a necessity without which your device will get slower. Wake up people! The Nexus and Pixel devices from Google don't bundle in such rubbish. And they work flawlessly, no doubt about that.

If your smartphone or tablet does run slow, just restart it once in a while. And trust me when I say this, a restart is much healthier for your device than using a "cleaner" or "manager".
